Events Committee

The success of design-build is dependent upon the establishment of effective relationships between key industry players. The primary focus of the Events Committee is to bring those individuals together to network and to learn about topics related to design-build. The Events Committee accomplishes this goal by organizing and hosting programs, forums, panel discussions and social networking events centered on design-build project delivery. Through its recruitment of participation from AEC industry leaders including: owners, design professionals, contractors, financial institutions (both lending and bonding) and legal professionals, the Events Committee seeks to raise awareness of DBIA and design-build construction within Hampton Roads.

Programs Committee

Design-build delivery is unique from traditional methods of project delivery. As a result, education is a critical component of promoting the expansion of design-build. Only once industry members know about design-build, understand how it differs from other project delivery methods and appreciate its strengths, will they be able to successfully determine when and how design-build can best be utilized. The focuses of the Programs Committee are to provide informative, streamlined, effective design-build education and to increase widespread expansion of the DBIA Professional Designation Program. The Programs Committee accomplishes these goals, in part, by working closely with the Events Committee and through its partnerships with other professional and educational organizations.

Membership Committee

An organization is only as strong as its membership base. The Membership Committee focuses on expanding the membership base of DBIA-HR by inviting new individuals to participate in DBIA-HR events and by educating existing DBIA-HR participants on the benefits of membership and encouraging them to join DBIA-HR. The Membership Committee also strives to retain DBIA-HR's membership base by addressing the needs and concerns of its members.

Owners Council

Recognizing that the proliferation of design-build construction is dependent upon an embracing of design-build by owners as a viable method of project delivery, it is the focus of the DBIA-HR Owners Council to address the concerns of this design-build demographic. The Owners Council provides a forum where owners can engage with other owners to share design-build experiences, best practices, concerns and "lessons learned." The Owners Council hosts periodic meetings which provide owners the opportunity to network with other owners and learn about and discuss various owner-specific design-build topics of interest. Through these meetings, presentations at owners' conferences and personal contact, the Owners Council seeks to educate owners about the benefits of design-build in order to encourage its continued adoption in the industry.

Partnership with Old Dominion University, Department of Engineering Technology

DBIA-HR is pleased to have the involvement and support of ODU’s Department of Engineering Technology, in particular, the Civil Engineering Technology Program. This partnership provides ODU students with an invaluable opportunity to meet and network with industry professionals and benefits DBIA-HR members by providing a fresh academic perspective and the opportunity for continuing informal and formal education.
